Accurate protein prediction is critical for understanding microbiome functions and studying microbe-host interactions. Matthias Schmitz, Thomas Hitch, and their team developed a lineage-specific gene prediction method that uses the correct genetic codes, removes incomplete proteins, and optimizes small protein prediction. Their paper, Lineage-specific microbial protein prediction enables large-scale exploration of protein ecology within the human gut, was published in Nature Communications.
